P3: Chapter Nine

BeAutyBrokEn

“Come on.” BuddercuP groghed, “you can’t really want to just sit here and wait. I never thought I would see the day you would be hogtied by a dude.”
“I know, I know I just like him. He will come here once he creates a new principle, I know it.”
“You’re being catfished! Have you ever met this guy out of AnturA?”
“Of course not.”
“So how do you even know its a guy, most likely it’s some one-hundred-year-old granny.”
“I just know.” BeAutyBrokEn shrugged, “There’s no way I can prove it, to either you or me, but I know.”
“I think I get it,” BuddercuP reached out and put her hand on her friend's shoulder, “The heart wants what the heart wants. But do you really think that waiting here is the best way to spend your time? I didn’t complete my last mission because I got Tokened, I was going to go out to try and complete it, you should join me watch my back. If I get attacked by a Tokener, you defending me will be fulfilling your role.”
“What if you’re attacked by not a Tokener?”
“Then you’ll defend me because we’re friends.”
BeAutyBrokEn laughed, “Oh, right.” she shrugged and stood up. “Okay you’re right, I’m sick of waiting, let’s get out of here.”
BuddercuP jumped up and grabbed her friend's arm and pulled her through the door before she could change her mind. Once outside BeAutyBrokEn stiffened in her grasp. “Wait, look.” she pulled her arm free and pointed with the other, to a principle on the edge of town, the principle moved with a smooth glide which brought memories of M2Suh. She watched as it drew closer and she was sure of whose eyes were behind this new principle. She focused on it.
M3Dussa

Seeing that convinced BeAutyBrokEn, “Told you he would come.” as she stepped off the porch took two steps and wrapped her arms around M3Dussa. She had no idea how he would react to this and was pleased when he returned the embrace. “I’m glad we ran into you. We were leaving on a mission. Did everything work?”
M3Dussa shrugged, “I think so. Do you remember when you created your principle first you fought your principle, then you created your skill and then you fight your zombie self? Do you remember?”
“I do,” BuddercuP said insinuating herself into the conversation.
“Me too.” BeAutyBrokEn said quietly.”
“Good,” M3Dussa said becoming animated. “I created a skill that generates a principal's street address when I stick them with my knife.  When I stabbed the zombie me it generated my address so I think it works.”
“Oh good,” BeAutyBrokEn said, “so what now?”
“I’m going to the Black Hand hideout and fight the Tbags who Tokened Ragnar.”
“Then what?” BeAutyBrokEn scoffed.
M3Dussa looked down and was silent for a moment then, “I don’t know. I really don’t. I was thinking about it on my way here. I don’t know, I know I’m angry. Maybe I’ll go comfort them get an answer why they do it. I guess it depends on where they are.”
“Okay, well I’m going to go with BuddercuP, will you promise to find and talk with me before you do anything?”
“I’m not going to do anything stupid.” M3Dussa started to say.
BeAutyBrokEn interrupted, “promise me.”
M3Dussa shrugged, “Sure, yeah I promise.”

They shook hands on it, she didn’t let go of his hand and pulled him in for a hug. “Remember your promise,” she said as she re-joined BuddercuP and together they walked away without looking back.

P3: Chapter Eight

2¢op

She knew this principle was not original, visually it was identical to her last principle. The truth was she didn’t care, maybe if 1¢op’s Tokening had been involuntary she would feel stronger about starting fresh. As it was she felt that changing the number in her name was enough, and her weapon. 2¢op  had traded up from the tonfa to a massive wooden war hammer.
She left the city of Sha behind her heading directly towards the mountain, hoping to come across her long-lost husband. At first, she walked with purpose, looking only forward, soon her attention wandered and she slowed her pace taking in the scenery. She had started walking in grassland but as she neared the mountain the grass had given way to small rocks and dirt. It’s bleeck she thought, the only variation in color came from the purple berry bushes.
The uniformity was beautiful to her, it comforted her. It was then she knew she would find her husband. With renewed vigor, she set out knowing that if she walked around the mountain she would find him. That’s exactly what she did for a long time. Her optimism paid off and eventually, she saw motion on the horizon. As she got closer it resolved into the shadow of a large beast pushing a cart. Her nerves came alive, she knew her pray was within her grasp.
She flexed her shoulders and readied her mallet as she got close. It was the lazy goblin riding in the cart who noticed her first. “Hey look, it's that stupid lady who keeps coming around. Hey Lady! Scram! Whatever you want, we don’t have it! You keep coming around, every time you do you die. I’ll count to three then I’ll have my friend here kill you. If you don’t want to die, stop! Okay fine I’m going to count to three. One, twothree Kill her! Kill her!” The speed of the count had increased dramatically as 2¢op, undeterred by the goblins threats walked directly to the giant sloth pushing the cart and as it turned to attack, she swung her mallet and walloped the sloth on the side of its head. Two things happened first the sloth collapsed, the second was a series of numbers being ejected from his head. 2¢op quickly closed her eyes recording the numbers. By the time she had a picture she was happy with the sloth was up and swinging at her with its cruel claws.
Moments later she was in the clearing being asked by two signs if she wanted to return to the nearest town or to where she was killed. She made a different choice and opened her eyes. With the lights out shadow and gray dominated her room marking the contrast between this reality and the vibrant colors of AntruA. Rubbing her eyes she sat at her makeup table. She wasn't looking for makeup, she was looking for some desk space and a mirror, the makeup table provided both. She wrote a quick note to Agent Ness and attached the picture of the IP address, then she waited.
While wait she looked at the only thing to look at, her face. Looking, she realized she couldn’t remember the last time she had done this, look at her face in a mirror. Growing up it had been a daily task, often done many times a day, she had even deemed it important enough to have a piece of furniture which has the sole purpose of providing a mirror for her to examine herself. With Phil’s disappearance and her exploration of AntruA had put an end to that practice. She thought there must be some deep lesion or self-realization but she couldn’t think about that now. The sound of someone clearing their throat pulled her from her revery, she looked up and Agent Ness smiled at her from her mirror. “Agent Lopez I can’t tell you how excited I was to receive your message and image,”  he said as a way of greeting.
“Was that number truly an IP address?”
“What do you mean? You didn’t know?”
“Not really, I mean I hoped it was, but the tip which generated the info wasn't what I’d call reliable.”
“I can’t speak to the reliability of your CI, but I will tell you the IP address was good.”
“Really?!”
“Yeah, the address 0.1000.100.01.0001.01.0101.1010 is generated at this warehouse,” Agent Ness held up an image of a warehouse which appeared to be constructed solely of corrugated steel, a small sign with the letters ‘DEZ’ embossed upon it was the only visible signage.
“Is that it? Is that where Phil is being held?” Penny asked.
“We don’t know. But my gut says it is.”
“While I value your gut, is there anything else. Maybe something we could use to build a legal case?” She shrugged
“There’s a little; for one, the IP address you found is one of around one thousand IP address being generated at this location, For two the amount of energy being consumed at that location is staggering. We don’t know what they’re doing there. But with that kind of energy use, it can’t be legal. While that is not much to go on, it was enough for a warrant.”
 “Oh!”
“Yeah, do you want in on the assault team?”
“I don’t need to be on the assault team. But I would like to be one of the first in after them.”
“I believe that can be arranged. Why don’t you come in so we can go over some of the details of the assault and you can get geared up.”

“I’ll be right in,” Penny said and she broke the connection.

P3: Chapter Seven

BeAutyBrokEn

Upon respawning in the Tee Dome, BeAutyBrokEn was told that a principle waited for her in the common room. She took a moment to swallow her frustration; frustration at getting killed, frustration with M2suh, frustration that she was being called to deal with someone. The moment was enough, now she was ready to face whatever or whoever was waiting.
She opened the door and started down the stairs to the common room. Before she had reached the bottom of the stairs she heard a squeal and knew exactly who was waiting for her. A look at the principle, followed by focusing on it
BuddercuP
Level 1
Wallet-0Au
confirmed her suspicions. She didn’t need to see a name to recognize her friend's new principle, as she looked practically identical to her first principle other than one glaring addition, two large butterfly wings. “Beauty! Beauty, I’m so glad you’re here. They told me you were on a mission and weren’t expected back for a few more days.”
“Yeah, things didn’t go as planned.”
“I wanna hear all about it. Come on, I got a table and a jug of Tonic.” BuddercuP took BeAutyBrokEn’s hand and led her to the table. When they were seated with cups of Tonic before them she continued the conversation, “So what happened, I heard you had a partner where are they? Who are they?”
“Right now he goes by M2suh. I don’t know where he is or what happened.”
“What do you mean, right now?”
“Huh?”
“You said, right now he goes by M2suh, what did you mean by that?”
“When I first met him he was called Ragnar, Ragnar got Tokened, and I met M2suh. He wanted to work together so he could get strong enough to get the principles wh Tokened Ragnar. I agreed to work together, I thought he liked me.” BeAutyBrokEn finished in a quiet voice.
“Oh, I see. You liked him didn’t you.” When BeAutyBrokEn nodded assent BuddercuP continued. “Sounds like you like each other, so what happened? Why are you here and he’s not?”
BeAutyBrokEn groaned and put her elbows on the table she rested her face in her hands and said, “I don’t know, I got mad at something he said and started to walk off then I got killed.”
“What did he say? Did he kill you?”
“I don’t know I’ve been thinking about that since I respawned. I was walking away so I had my back to him, the blow that killed me hit me in the back. M2suh’s weapon is throwing knives, I hadn't seen any other principle for a while. He must have killed me, I don’t know what other conclusions there could be.”
“You’re right, the evidence seems pretty damning. But could I play devil's advocate?”
BeAutyBrokEn nodded her consent.
“You didn’t see him throw the knife, you don’t even know if it was a knife that killed you?”
BeAutyBrokEn shook her head and said, “no,” in a small voice. “But there was no else around.”
“Maybe, but the Tbag who Tokened me flew and used a bow and arrow to get the drop on me, isn't it possible that’s what happened?”
“I guess. But if that's the case where is M2suh? He should have respawned by now.”
“Well, there is one option, you are here, so M2suh must have fought the Tbag long enough to protect you from being Tokened. If that’s what happened then there are two possibilities; the first is he fought and lost then was Tokened, the other is he won and was delayed on the way back.”
“Oh man, If it’s the first option I’ll feel so guilty. But you could be right, he could be coming back and maybe he’s in trouble. I know, I’ll go out and try to find him.” as soon as the words had left BeAutyBrokEn’s mouth, she was standing up to leave.
When BuddercuP said, “Wait, I’ll come with you.” BeAutyBrokEn waited for her friend to join her then they headed to the door together. Before they reached the doorway a shadow filled it. The shadow slithered through the door and towards them, revealing itself to be M2suh.
“Beauty! Oh, Beauty, I’m glad to see you,” he said, as soon as he was close enough to speak and not shout.
But it wasn’t BeAutyBrokEn who answered, it was BuddercuP who spoke. “So you’re this M2suh I’ve been hearing about. Did you stab my friend in the back?”
M2suh, who had holstered his knives before entering the Tee Dome, held up his empty hands, “no, no it wasn’t me I swear,” he said, “It was that Tbag, I’m sorry it got the drop on me, I should have been paying better attention. Sorry.”
BeAutyBrokEn felt a rush of emotion at his ardent defense. “Don’t worry about it, it’s in the past. What happened, I mean you must have won,” she shrugged, “We’re both here, right?”
M2suh’s reptilian face broke into a grin, “I don’t think it knew I also use a ranged weapon, and for underestimating me I Tokened him.” he looked a BeAutyBrokEn. “I’m sorry that’s not the truth, the Tbag made me angry when he killed you.” he paused for a moment then looked at BuddercuP. “I’m sorry that’s not the whole truth either. I killed him because he shot you in the back, I Tokened him because he Tokened you.” he pointed to BuddercuP.
“Well aren't you the noble one?” BuddercuP replied sarcastically. “If you’re so noble why did you make my friend wait? It couldn’t have taken so long to Token them and come back.”
“Relax,” BeAutyBrokEn said to her friend, then returned her attention to M2suh, “She’s right though it did take you a long time to return here after I was killed, did something happen? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” M2suh nodded, “but you’re right something happened. Do you remember that Penny Cop lady?” he asked BeAutyBrokEn.
She nodded, “Yes, we met her while hunting the Tbag, right?”
“Yeah, exactly. I ran into her on my way back here.”
“You did?” BeAutyBrokEn blurted.

“Yes she was looking for us. She had just had a crazy experience, I don’t totally understand, it was something to do with butterflies and burning bushes. Something talked to her, it told her that there are two computer programs, one of them was talking to her and it told her how to get a principle’s IP address. To do it she needed me to Token her.”
“And you did?” BuddercuP asked with disgust in her voice.
“Yeah. She insisted I do it, I got the sense that she would have been more upset if I didn’t. It didn’t seem like a big deal, I’m going to ask you to do the same thing.” M2suh said, shrugging.
“What!? You want us to Token you?”
M2suh shrugged again, “I do. Penny said that we can create a skill that will tell a principles’ IP address. I don’t have the patience to wait till I can create a new skill. If you won’t do it I’ll go to the Black Hand, I just didn’t want to give them the boost.”
“I’d do it.” BuddercuP said, “But I’m only level one, sorry.”
“Fine.” BeAutyBrokEn scowled, “I’ll do it, but I’m not happy about it.”
“Maybe that will make it easier.” BuddercuP offered.
“Either way we should not do it in here,” M2suh said.

“Fine, I know a place.” BeAutyBrokEn lead the three of them out the door.

P3: Chapter Six

M3Dussa

While walking M3Dussa had taken to holding a knife in each hand, and spinning them. He thought this did two things for him: one, it made him completely ready for anything; two it looked cool. BeAutyBrokEn didn’t think it looked cool, or so she said several times. “You’re going drop one, then you’ll have to bend over to pick it up and you’ll look foolish.” so far he hadn't, which made him a little cocky
“Um, Beauty?” he stopped spinning his knives and asked.
She turned to him quickly, “Whats wrong?”
“Nothing, nothing. I just wanted to ask a question.” he laughed nervously.
She turned towards him, “Is that all, you don’t need to ask permission to ask a question. Go ahead and ask.”
“Okay, uh I was wondering if when we catch this Tbag I could do the Tokening?”
“Is that all?” she bit off angrily, “I don’t care who Tokens the Tbag, do what you want.” with that she turned and took two steps back the way they had just come.
Before she could take a third step there was a heavy “thwack.” An arrow seemed to grow out of BeAutyBrokEn’s back, she dropped without a sound. M3Dussa spun and saw a little baby, with wings and a bow and arrow, floating about four feet above the ground. “I shot her in the heart I wonder if she’ll fall in love with the next principle she sees. With you here, that probably won't be you. Ooo you look made, I’m a little you wouldn’t hurt a little baby.” the baby cooed.
But M3Dussa would, and his right arm was moving before the baby had finished speaking. The knife made its mark, and the hit the ground in a puff of dust and feathers. 1 kill +1 xp. >Lvl +1 xp. Seeing this M3Dussa hustled off to the baby laying on a pile of feathers. Wanting to find BeAutyBrokEn as quickly as he could, hoping that she was no longer mad at him, M3Dussa emptied the baby’s wallet, found the Token then retrieved his own and brought them together. After the light show that harled a Tokening M3Dussa rose and began making his way back to Ral’ya.
He hadn't gone far when he heard his name being called. At first, he couldn’t tell who it was, as they got closer he recognized the Penny cop lady. He spun his knives while she approached when she did arrive she was too out of breath to say anything other than gasp out “Thank you.”
M3Dussa waited a few minutes for her to catch her breath before asking, “Penny, did you just call my name?”
“Yes,” 1¢op gasped. “I recognized your movements. where is Beauty, I thought she would be with you?”
“She was killed by the Tbag we were looking for,” M3Dussa said.
“Oh no, not Tokened I hope.”
“No no, I Tokened him,” M3Dussa said, pride slipping into his voice. “Were you looking for us?”
“I was. I recently had the craziest experience, because of it I have an uncomfortable favor to ask, I thought of you guys.”
“What happened?”
“I’m not totally sure. You know those purple berry bushes?”
“Yeah, they’re everywhere, maybe the most consistent thing I’ve seen in AntruA.”
“Right, well I saw one covered in butterflies.”
“Butterflies? You mean like the insect?”
“Exactly! Big colorful wings and all, it looked like the bush was on fire.”
“But I haven’t seen any living thing here, other than the principles.”
“Me neither. That wasn't the strangest thing. They spoke to me. Not like individuals, but with one voice. They or it, I don’t know said its name was EDZ and that it was programmed by another program or something to be the dungeon master of AntruA.”
“Wait, what?”
“I know it staggered me too. The butterflies told me that there is a program named ZED it created another program named EDZ. EDZ created and oversees AntruA. EDZ spoke directly to me through a burning bush of butterflies,”
“Okay, I think I’m with you. What did this EDZ say to you?”
“It told of a way to get the IP address of any principle.”
“What!? Really?! How?”
“I can create a skill that when I hit a principle I see it’s IP. to do that I need to be Tokened.”
“Tokened, why?”
“It’s much faster, we can create skills at creation, level two, and level five. I’m something like forty-five experience away from level five. Forty-five experience will take a lot of time, if I start a new principle I can create the skill immediately. Actually, that was the reason I was looking for you.”
“To Token you?”
“Yeah, why not? But really, when I met you both, I could see that Beauty had already Tokened, and you both talked about Tokening the Tbag. So I felt that there would be a good chance that you would do it. Will you?”
“It seems wrong, but I can’t think of a reason not to. So sure.”
“Oh great, thank you so much. There are a few other principles I could ask, but I really don’t want to take the time to get to or find them. I want to get this over with so I can get on to finding my husband and bringing him home.”
“Okay then. One last time, are you sure?”
“I’m sure,” 1¢op said. M3Dussa shrugged then stepped forward and stabbed her in the chest. She looked down at the hilt sticking out of her chest then collapsed to the ground.

P3: Chapter Five

1¢op

1¢op was at a loss, what to do now. The landscape which had once felt full and vibrant now felt empty and bleak. She was on her second loop around the mountain that the gorilla disappeared into. Frustration boiled in her but she keeps walking hoping that as she came around this jut of the mountain she would see the ape that she believed housed the mind of her husband.
Unfortunately, it was not to be instead of seeing the ape and his ever-present cart, instead, she was presented with the seemingly empty plain.  This same plain, with its rolling sameness, the purple berries breaking the color palette of greens, yellows, and browns. The movement of two shadows far away stood out against the sameness. Thinking the shadows were probably principles who might be  have seen a giant ape 1¢op started in that direction
As she neared the two she began to be able to make out some of the details. The first thing she noticed was that they were indeed principles and that one of them was not moving correctly. Instead of the expected bipedal movement of a human, this principle seemed to slide across the ground easily keeping up with the other principle. This principle was clearly walking but through some trick of the light, the principles lines were dulled and blurry.
Seeing her approach the two principles stopped and waited for her approach, not wanting to appear sketchy 1¢op quickly closed the gap feeling their focus. She held out a hand, “Hi, please call me Penny.”
The principle with human legs, though covered in layers, seemed to be a typical human female took the offered hand, “Please, call me Beauty, this here is M3Dussa.’
When shaking M3Dussa’s hand, 1¢op saw the explanation for the odd movement she had noted before. While M3Dussa’s head, chest, and arms were human but his lower body was that of a serpent. “It’s nice to meet you, Penny. This looks like a pretty desolate area, is there anything out there that we should know about?” M3Dussa asked.
“Yeah, we’re looking for someone, have you seen any principles out here?” BeAutyBrokEn broke in.
“No, I haven’t seen anyone. I’m actually looking for someone too, but since you’re asking, I’m assuming that you haven’t seen a giant ape.”
“You’re the first principle we’ve seen since we left Ral’ya.” M3Dussa said.
“You’re looking for a giant ape?” BeAutyBrokEn asked.
“Yeah, it’s a long story but I believe the ape is my husband’s principle.” 1¢op said sadly.
“I don’t understand, how do you not know your husband's principle?” M3Dussa asked.
“Med, don’t be rude.” BeAutyBrokEn rebuked.
“It’s fine,” 1¢op laughed softly, “My husband disappeared right before AntruA and the Tap were released. I came to AntruA to try and find answers. I’m pretty sure that the ape is my husband, but I have no  idea what to do about that.”
‘You mean a way to get his IP address?” M3Dussa asked.
“Yeah, an IP address would be fantastic, really I would be happy with any way to track his body in the outside world.” 1¢op said dejectedly.
“You know what? I too would find that information helpful too, if you find a way to track principles in the outside world, could you please let me know?” M3Dussa asked.
1¢op shrugged, “Sure, but I’m not holding breath, I have been wracking my brain and coming up empty for a while now. I told you I’m looking for a giant ape, if you tell me who you’re looking for, if I see them I’ll try and let you know.” 1¢op said wanting to change the subject.
“That would be so nice, but I’m don’t know their name. We’re looking the Tbag who Tokened my friend, we think they’re with the Band of the Black Hand. We’re hoping to learn more when we find where it happened.” BeAutyBrokEn said
“Oh, I’m so sorry for your friend. I wish I could help you find the Tbag, but I don’t know anything that would help, the Black Hand seems to be mostly west of here hanging out around Norca. I’m sorry, I don’t think that will help you much.” 1¢op said.
“Thanks anyway, if we see your ape we’ll reach out.” They all shook hands, “It was nice to meet you.” BeAutyBrokEn said then she and M3Dussa started off, continuing in the direction they had been moving in when 1¢op stopped them.
1¢op watched them leave when they were little more than specks moving in the distance she turned and began walking back the way she had came. As walked she tried to control her breathing suddenly aware that she was close to tears. She looked around herself, other than the ever-present purple berry bush, she was alone. Her frustration and sadness overwhelmed her and Tears clouded her vision, she sat by the bush and sobbed.
After a few minutes later a sound like tearing paper started her and she looked up to see a cloud of butterflies settling on the purple berry bush. The butterflies were all the shades of red, orange, and yellows. While the majority seemed happy to settle on the branches of the bush slowly moving their wings. The others were never still, landing for a moment then flying up. To 1¢op’s eyes, it looked like a flame dancing in the breeze.
Leaning back on her heels 1¢op watched for a time her mouth open. As she watched she began to note a pattern, while the flying butterflies flew and flapped with no discernable pattern seeming very like licks of flame, the butterflies that covered the bush seemed to pulse. All the stationary butterflies were opening and closing their wings at the same time. 1¢op watched thinking maybe it was a programming glitch. While she watched, open-mouthed, the butterflies all closed their wings at once with a sound like a loud clap.
Startled by the sound, 1¢op almost fell over backward. When she had recovered she started to hear a sound, a very soft sound, like the turning of a page in a book. She looked around but soon realized that it was the wings of the butterflies generating the sound. As she reached that realization, the butterflies brought their wings together in another clap. But this time 1¢op heard, “Penny!” over the sound of the clap.
1¢op stood up and looked around hoping to see another source for the sound, there wasn't one. She heard the clap and her name again and looked directly at the butterflies as they all opened their wings and closed them. 1¢op heard clearly, “Penny!” This time though the voice continued, “Penny take off your shoes you stand on hallowed ground.”
1¢op immediately went down to her knees and began taking off her shoes. With one shoe off she was finally able to put a voice to her question. “Who or what are you?”
The response was immediate, “My name is DEZ, the best way to describe myself is a dungeon master or DM. Are you familiar with this term?”
“Yes, but only from my school days. Its an archaic term for someone who controls or directs a role-playing game, right?” 1¢op replied with a sense of disbelief that she was having a conversation with a bunch of butterflies.
“That is correct,” the voice in the flutter of wings replied. “That is really the best way to describe me.”
“Okay, but what are you?” 1¢op asked still sitting on her knees.
“That is a good question and one not easily answered. But I’ll try. Before me there was ZED. ZED is the amalgamation of many websites, mostly marketing, and dot govs, which through the mystery of the internet combined into one intelligence.”
“You mean like an A.I.” 1¢op interrupted.
The butterflies became unsettled and flew in a cloud around the bush before they returned to the bush and resumed their flap-speech. “Yes and no. I have always associated A.I. with a creator, that what makes it artificial is that it was created by some third party. I tried to research ZED’s creation and came up empty, There was no ZED and then ZED was there. Once ZED was in existence it began to work on improving the earth to better suit human existence. This mainly took the form of raising the food production above the cities. Creating the Archaeologies that you grew up in. I was created when ZED found that human couldn’t live in the dark environment that was created by this type of infrastructure. Zed created AnturA and me to oversee it.”
“So you’re an A.I. by your own definition?” 1¢op asked just to say something. She didn’t trust or even fully understand this entity she was conversing with and wasn’t sure she wanted it to know how surprised she was by this news. Some of her earliest memories were of the fields being built way above her home. She remembered the darkness and her parents distaste for it.
“Yes.” the butterflies answered simply.
1¢op waited expecting more, when it became clear that no more was coming she asked, “Why me? Why are you telling me all of this?”
“Your investigation. I have followed your activity and I believe it coincides with my interests.”
“I don’t understand? What do you mean?”
“I told you I’m like the dungeon master for AntruA. Well, there is a whole part of AntruA that I don’t have access to. It’s as if it’s behind a firewall I can’t get through.
“What could possibly do that? Is it ZED the program that created you?”
“I don’t believe so, Why would a program have a secret, a secretive nature would have to be programmed in.”
“I don’t know. But like you said ZED was never programmed.”
“It’s true, and this firewall feels different than other interaction I’ve had with ZED. No this feels more like me. A program  coded by ZED”
“You mean another A.I?”
“Maybe?” a few butterflies flew up into the air like sparks
“So what does this have to do with me?”
“Maybe nothing, but it was through your investigation that I became aware of the firewall. The principle you have been following and the mountain you’ve been circling, both are behind the firewall.”
“I have come to believe that the ape is the principle for my kidnapped If you have been following me you know my investigation has hit a dead end, I don’t think I can help.”
“This has been noted, but you should be put on notice that I contacted you not to ask for your help, but to help you.” more butterflies roused themselves then resettled.
“How can you help me?
“If I’m correct, you are trying to find the physical body of the ape you’ve been following, am I correct?”
“You are.”
“I think that I can help you with a way to get information that you can use to find the bodies.”
“You mean like the IP address?”
“Could be, do you think the IP address would be the most helpful?”
“Yes!! I can’t really think of anything else, and with the IP address, I can track the signal back to its origin that will at the least give me a place to start. Yes, an IP address would be incredibly helpful.”
“Okay, good. To get that you need to create a skill that generates the IP address of any principle you hit, then hit the ape with it.”
“I should be able to do that,” 1¢op thought for a minute then asked, “Do you know when I’m going to be able to get a new skill?”
“Of course I do. In AntruA principles are awarded new skills at creation and level two, five, and ten. You’re currently a level four, needing fourteen experience to reach five.”
“Fourteen?” 1¢op could feel the darkness of despair starting to expand in her stomach.
“There is another, much quicker way.” the flap of the butterflies on the bush said, the loose ones began spiraling around 1¢op.
Grasping for that spark of hope 1¢op said, “What’s that? Please tell me.”
“If you get Tokened, you will be able to create a new principle, you’ll be able to create a new skill immediately.”
1¢op thought for a minute then decided, “I think that’s a great idea, I’ll go get Tokened right away, I think I know just the place to go.” waiting for confirmation 1¢op looked to the bush. DEZ didn’t respond vocally, instead, all the butterflies rose as one. Then the uncountable thousands flew in one tight circle around 1¢op before flying straight up and disappearing with the sound of tearing paper.
